One of the great sporting events on the planet is just hours away from first serve and I am going to be there for you with match predictions, betting tips, and general wizardry throughout the championships. I also want to open the channels of communication and anytime during the tournament if any of you have any betting questions, my match leans, info about a little known player, etc please feel free to post a question here or you can always e mail me at Sportsedge2@aol.com.
There are not many things that can be compared with the history, tradition, and grandeur that the Championships Wimbledon bring each and every year from a quaint little village right outside of London. Added to the excitement this year is that just under a month after Wimbledon 2012's champions are crowned the worlds best will be back on the hallowed grounds of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club to fight for Olympic Gold, so except to see even more drama then usual as the games best are really fired up for an amazing summer in ole London Town..
MEN'S DRAW SEMI-FINAL PREDICTIONS-
#1 NOVAK DJOKOVIC VS #3 ROGER FEDERER
#4 ANDY MURRAY VS #2 RAFAEL NADAL
FINALS- MURRAY VS DJOKOVIC
2012 CHAMPION- ANDY MURRAY!!- The great British hope who is going off at +1100 as of press time is worth taking a shot on as an Olympic year is as good of a time as any for a minor miracle. The Brits have not been able to call one of their own champion at Tennis' most prestigious tournament since Fred Perry in 1936. That will all change this year as Murray has truly grown up over the past two years and is ready to make the move to Major Champion. Murray has slowly but surely put all facets of his game together and with coach and former world number one and Wimbledon champ Ivan Lendl in his corner, this will be the year that the earth stands still as the UK will be partying for months after Murray wins Wimbledon.
WOMEN'S DRAW SEMI-FINAL PREDICTIONS
#1 MARIA SHARAPOVA VS #5 SAM STOSUR
#4 PETRA KVITOVA VS #2 VICTORIA AZARENKA
FINALS- SHARAPOVA VS KVITOVA
2012 CHAMPION- In a rematch of the 2011 Final Sharapova, who is easily playing the best tennis in the world right now, will make sure the result is much different the straight sets defeat at the hands of Kvitova last year. Maria is back at number one and plans on staying there for a while , which in the women's game has not been an easy task. The former Wimbledon champ(2004) will breeze through most of the tourney and will dominate Kvitova the way she was dominated in the final last year as she wins her second straight major in 2012 and Sharapova will go into the Olympics as the Gold Medal favorite and deservedly so.
DTM'S MATCH OF THE DAY - DAVID NALBANDIAN VS JANKO TIPSAREVIC 1pm London time 8am Eastern Time- Court Number 1-Current line Tipsarevic -$155
Former finalist David Nalbandian is coming off his epic disqualification in the Finals of Queens Club, and could get a bit testy and ragged if the crowd is against him from the start. Tipsarevic, the eight seed, comes in playing some of the best tennis of career and his steady and consistent play will prove to be too much for the Argentine in the end.
Prediction( based on a 1-10 John McEnroe smashed orange Juice glass scale)
7.8 smashed OJ glasses on Tipsarevic in Four Sets.
Results 1 to 21 of 21

DTM'S MATCH OF THE DAY WED JUNE 27TH
MEN'S DRAW SECOND ROUND
XAVIER MALISSE VS GILES SIMON Court 1 apx 5 pm London time, Noon est Current Line Giles Simon -$125
You have to hand it to the 31 year-old Malisse , who always seems to be hanging around at majors even when his play is not at the highest level as it has tended to be over the past couple of years. Nonetheless the former Wimbledon semi-finalist (2002) has always been a threat on grass.
The Belgian made quick work of Aussie Marinko Matosevic in the first round in straights , but gets a whole different kind of opponent in the second round as he faces Frenchman and 13 seed Giles Simon. Simon can tend to play down to his competition at times, but when he is on, he is very tough to beat. Simon has already won an event this year in Bucharest and has made the semi's four times as well so far this season.
PREDICTION (BASED ON A 1-10 COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME" COLLECTIBLE MOUTH GUARD SCALE)
7.8 mouth guards on Simon- Malisse is always a tough out, but the way that Simon can control a match with his ground strokes and serve and his seemingly growing confidence despite some poor results in the past couple tournaments, this could be over quicker then it begins. Look for Simon to win in four mostly comfortable sets

06-27-2012, 01:44 AM #6
I will tail on Simon
he's a lot better than malisse, but malisse does well on grass and I think that's why you get a low price.
Malisse is 7-2 this current grass season and is 32-12 career
meanwhile simon is only 15-9 career and lost in the first round in the other grass tournament he played this year
Simon is 10-6 at Wimbledon, while Malisse is 17-11

Love the write up Dan but i am on Malisse i just think he functions that much better on Grass
-
06-27-2012, 05:45 PM #8
I'm still on Mallise even though there was a rain out.I like Simon alot but Mallise has done well here in the past and knows he won't have many more chances.
-
06-27-2012, 06:32 PM #9
I hear ya wizards, but I think the delay will only help Simon more as while Malisse has had a good grass court season, giving himself more time to think about a tough match-up against one of the top 20 in the world might have him sleeping a little harder :)

And as much as I love Wimbledon , the only drawback is the sweet London rains.......get out your brelly!!

WOMEN'S DRAW
CHRISTINA MCHALE VS ANGELIGUE KERBER 3RD ROUND APX 1:30 PM LONDON TIME 8:30 AM EST COURT #2 CURRENT LINE KERBER -$440 MCHALE +$340
The Shock waves were sent throughout the All England Club on Thursday when world number two Rafa Nadal went down to a virtual unknown , letting many know what us tennis diehards know all too well, anything can happen at a major championship. That leads me into my match of the day for Friday as round three play continues.
The second match up on court #2 sees upstart american 28-seed Christina McHale face 8-seed ultra-talented German Angeligue Kerber. Not only is she super hot:) Google Image Result for http://www.top2best.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/angelique-kerber-hd-wallpaper.jpg , but the girl can play. The 24 year old is easily playing the best tennis of her career , reaching the quarters at the French and then losing in the final of grass court tune-up Eastbourne.
McHale though, only 20 years old, is truly coming into her own. In a tournament already filled with monster upsets I ask why not another and why not the young American who is exuding the most confidence of her career? Kerber can control the game from the baseline and overpower you at times, but McHale has been showing that kind of form as well and with her steadily improving serve can win the cheap points you need against Kerber to make inroads and has the ability at the net to cause a lot of problems for the German.
PREDICTION (BASED ON A 1-10 RAFA NADAL DISAPOINTMENT SWEATBAND)
6.8 SWEATBANDS ON MCHALE- This is definitely my biggest reach of the tourney so far, but with the value you get here I think the risk is worth the reward. Kerber is a truly tough out and is good enough to make a deep run this fortnight, but McHale is growing up before our eyes and this could be that breakthrough win that we all know is not a matter of if, but a matter of when!
Bonus match prediction- 7.8 rafa sweatbands on Verdasco +$120 against Malisse- we all know how me betting against the X man went in the last round, but as much as Simon is a solid player he is not the greatest on grass, Verdasco will never be confused with Pete Sampras on the soft stuff, but is a much different animal than Simon and let's be honest as hot as Malisse's girlfriend is , 140 different camera shots on her like in the last match, are not going to help her man get thru this one:)Last edited by sportsedge; 06-29-2012 at 04:53 AM.

MEN'S DRAW
PHILLIP KOHLSCHREIBER VS BRIAN BAKER QUARTERS 11:30 AM LONDON TIME 6:30 AM EST COURT 12 CURRENT LINE KOHLSCHREIBER -$185 BAKER +$155
The second Monday at Wimbledon is always the most exciting and jam-packed day of the fortnight , but due to rain monsters it will now bleed into Tuesday and give you even more time to get ready for what should be a terrific match. The 27th seeded German is looking for his first Major Quarterfinal and he goes against what is easily the best story in tennis so far this season.
27 year-old Brian Baker who hails from Nashville, Tennessee was one of the world's most promising juniors until injuries derailed his career and basically forced him into retirement before he could ever get his professional career going. He was basically resigned to that fate until last year when he figured why not go out and play some local tournaments in his home state and at least give the sport he loved so much one more go.
As you can see it has gone quite well for the American who went from those local tourneys to the round of 16 and the French and Wimbledon this year and whose ranking will be close to 80 in the world win or lose on Tuesday. Baker no longer is just trying to win a couple matches at Wimbledon, he is playing well enough to make a serious run at the semi's. Kohlschrieber is a great player and is finally showing the promise that many thought he had, but with the way that Baker's form has been so far this tournament, there is no reason to think the magical run will not continue.
PREDICTION (BASED ON A 1-10 SPAIN REIGN EURO 2012 CHAMPION GOLDEN FUTBOL )
7.8 GOLDEN FUTBOL'S ON THE FABULOUS BAKER BOY- Baker's confidence grows with every match he plays and he has truly looked like the player that he could have been if not for the terrible injuries that almost made this moment not possible. This match could go the distance, but with the way that Baker is controlling his matches with his incredibly strong serving and his deadly forehand almost knocking opponents over at times, Baker will do his part to try to set up an All-American quarterfinal if Mardy Fish keeps it gong when his match resumes against Tsonga.

WOMEN'S DRAW
#8 ANGELIQUE KERBER VS #3 AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA 1PM LONDON TIME 8 AM EST CENTRE COURT CURRENT LINE KERBER -$150 RADWANSKA +$130
The first Women's Semi-Final on Centre Court Thursday is a very unlikely one, that being said, with how great both of these ladies are playing, it really is no surprise at all. Angelique Kerber the eight seed from Germany has ripped her way through the tourney taking down sentimental favorite Kim Clisters in dominating fashion in the Round of 16, and fellow countrywomen Sabine Lisicki, who was playing phenomenal tennis in the Quarters.
Agineszka Radwanska might be the quietest three-seed in recent memory and has made it through her draw almost effortlessly, dropping only one set. Radwanska has had a fast rise to number three in the world and this is her chance to back it up and show the tennis world what she has always known, that she can be a Grand Slam champion. This is her first Grand Slam Semi, but she has made it to five other Major quarters in her career and seems like she believes this is her time to capitalize on all her hard work over the past couple of seasons to improve her game to a level worthy of being a major champion.
PREDICTION (BASED ON A 1-10 PRINCE WILLIAM AND PRINCESS KATE COLLECTIBLE PIMS MUG )
7.4 ROYAL PIMS MUGS ON RADWANSKA- Kerber has shown the World that she is ready for prime time and is easily playing the best tennis of her career over the last several months. She definitely has the ability to win the title, but goes up against another hurricane force at this fortnight in third-seeded Radwanska who has the kind of all-around game that can slow Kerber and make her a little hesitant, which has derailed Kerber in the past in her biggest moment's. Look for this to go three tough sets and for Radwanska to bully her way to her first Grand Slam Final which just happens to be at tennis' most hallowed ground.

No one has played better than Kerber in 2012, I don't trust Aga on grass and I think the German to gets to the final and loses to the Booty/Aza winner.
Great writeup though, enjoy the semifinals should be fun

Hey Jrod thanks for the kind words and welcome to the forum, I def think you will love it here. Great people and great info. Your right about Radwanska having issues on grass at times, but she has shown this year that she is on a mission and if she can beat Kerber, who has been equally as hot, then I think she can win it all:)

MEN'S FINAL
#3 ROGER FEDERER VS #4 ANDY MURRAY 1PM LONDON TIME 8 AM EST CENTRE COURT CURRENT LINE FEDERER -$210 MURRAY +$170
And...Here......we....Go!! This is all we could hope for in a Wimbledon Men's Final, dripping with history making implications and featuring one of the greatest if not the greatest of all-time players in Club Fed and Britain's greatest hope since King George I in Andy Murray, who truly carries the hopes and dreams of a nation in his wake.
Fed is going for his seventh Wimbledon title and what would improve on his already stunning record of 16 Major titles as he enters his 24th Grand Slam Final which is simply incredible in the ultra competitive Open Era of tennis(since 1968). Roger has turned back the clock during this fortnight and while he is still one of the top three players in the World, his game has dipped ever so slightly over the past couple of years while Nadal's and Djokovic's has gained. That being said a small dip for Roger is nothing compared to how absolutely magical a player he is. Other than his third round five-set scare against Julien Benneteau, Fed has been brilliant, moving the ball all over the court and serving so well opponents have no idea how to defend it.
On the other side of the net is Andy Murray who I have told you all along was going to win Wimbledon this year. Everything has lined up for Murray beautifully as after Nadal went out early he had his clearest path to the final yet, but didn't take that for granted and has played the best Grand Slam tennis of his career. The biggest change for Murray, who has always had the good to be a Major champion, is the claming influence of Ivan Lendl. You can see it in his play and in his confidence as Murray now truly believes he can win it all and Lendl has helped the chaos that creeps into Murray's game at the worst times to stay away.
This is a final that will go down as an all-timer no matter which man wins and all you need to know about how big its going to be is tickets have recently been going for 21,000$ a piece in anticipation of one of the most epic finals Centre Court has ever seen.
PREDICTION (BASED ON A 1-10 CHAMPIONSHIP STRAWBERRIES AND CREME FROZEN IN TIME TAKE HOME TREAT )
8.6 TAKE HOME TREATS ON MURRAY-I fully expect this to be one of the great tennis finals we will ever see. There is so much history on both sides of the net at the All-England Club on Sunday and it just seems to me that this is finally Murray's time. Federer has played some of his best tennis ever this tournament at 30 years-old and there is nothing that can be compared to his experience and his belief in his ability to win at the biggest moments of his life, he truly welcomes it. Andy Murray though truly believes in himself now and knows he can beat anyone , even the greatest of all-time in Federer if that is what it will take to realize his dream of winning the most important tournament in tennis for himself and for his tennis mad nation.
Murray has met Federer twice before in Major finals and both did not go well at all for the Brit, but he will be able to draw on those bad experiences to know how to respond differently to what will definitely be times when Fed will look unbeatable during this match. Murray will need to start fast and I think winning the first set is crucial, but as we have seen all tourney long, Murray has gotten himself out of any trouble he has been in fast and furious. The Stars have aligned to give tennis fans this truly special treat and we are going to see something incredibly special on Sunday. Andy Murray is going to break a 76-year British drought at Wimbledon and is going to put his name on a trophy and even more so his legacy on a pedestal as he beats the greatest to win the most important Major of them all and becomes the true pride of a nation forever!!
