"Cubs Fire Hitting Coach"
Weather to Watch
The temperature at Mentalist Stadium in the Ukraine will reach the mid 90s (33 degrees Celsius) for Wednesday’s match between the Netherlands (+200) and Germany (+140) – two Western European nations not used to that heat.
Who’s HOT
MLB: Arizona Diamdonbacks – Arizona has won five in a row heading into Tuesday’s interleague matchup with the Texas Rangers. The D-backs are 7-2 to start the month of June.
WNBA: Minnesota Lynx – The Lynx are off to a 9-0 start to the season, going 6-3 against the spread in that span.
Who’s NOT
MLB: Colorado Rockies – The Rockies have hit a rocky patch, losing five in a row heading into Tuesday’s game against the Oakland A’s. Colorado is 3-6 to start June.
WNBA: Tulsa Shock – The Shock are once again scrapping the bottom of the WNBA barrel, opening the schedule with eight straight losses. Tulsa has managed to cover in half those contests.
Euro: Netherlands – The Dutch are coming off an upset loss to Denmark in their Group B opener. Now, the Netherlands takes on Germany, which edged Portugal 1-0 in its opening game.
Key Stat
70 percent – Road favorites are quickly becoming the best value bet in the WNBA. Road teams giving the points have gone 7-3 heading into Tuesday. Away teams overall are 25-19 ATS – covering at almost 57 percent.
Injury that shouldn’t be overlooked
Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers –Cruz is nursing an Achilles injury and was limited over the weekend, but was expected to play against Arizona Tuesday. The outfielder has eight home runs and 36 RBIs this season and apparently blames the injury on a new pair of spikes. He has since switched to his old cleats but is still have discomfort.

Notable Quotable
"I think it’s almost impossible to do what they do. So why do we ask them to do the impossible? If in fact you can’t see the ball the last five feet and now pitchers are throwing pitches that are moving in that zone . . . if you can’t see it, why are we asking them to call it? They can’t see it. They’re humans. We’re asking humans to do a feat that a human can’t do.”-- Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine talking about the possibility of automated umpires.
Notes and Tips
Suspended Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch will be back on the track at Michigan after serving a one-race ban for threatening comments made towards a reporter at Dover on June 2. Busch is set at +800 to win the Quicken Loans 400 this Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs have fired hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo Tuesday. The Cubs are just 20-40 and rank 27th in the majors in the major in offense, hitting .247 and averaging only 3.7 runs a game.

Germany vs. Netherlands: Preview and match analysis
By Ashton Grewal
Odds: Germany +140, Draw +240, Netherlands +200
Over/Under: Over 2.5 (-105), Under 2.5 (-118)
About Germany:
FIFA world ranking: No. 3
Recent results: 3-0 win vs. Netherlands (11/15/11), 1-2 loss vs. France (02/29/12), 5-3 win vs. Switzerland (05/26/12), 2-0 win vs. Israel (05/31/12), 1-0 win vs. Portugal (Match Day 1, Group B)
Germany continues to be one of, if not the most, consistent world power. The team finished second in Euro 2008, third at the 2010 World Cup, and enters this tournament with its best starting 11 since its World Cup winning squad in 1990.
The Germans are coming off a 1-0 win against Portugal but didn’t play their best offensive football. The chances were limited and the chemistry was lacking between upfront men Lukas Podolski and Mario Gomez.
Manager Joachim Low hinted veteran striker Miroslav Klose could get the start on Wednesday and told reporters he is not afraid of switching up a winning lineup. Central defender Mats Hummels was dominate and disrupted also all of Portugal's best scoring chances.
The battle at midfield will be the key for Germany. Playmakers Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mesut Ozil need to feed the ball to attacking teammates past Holland’s physical holding midfielders.
About Netherlands:
FIFA world ranking: No. 4
Recent results: 3-2 win vs. England (02/29/12), 1-2 loss vs. Bulgaria (05/26/12), 2-0 win vs. Slovakia (05/30/12), 6-0 win vs. Northern Ireland (05/02/12), 0-1 loss vs. Denmark (Match Day 1, Group B)
The Dutch dominated Denmark in their opening Euro 2012 match but came away with a 1-0 defeat. It’s hard to believe this is the same team that played all the way to the final at South Africa before losing the World Cup final to Spain.
There is an abundance of individual brilliance on the squad but no flow among the stars in orange. Robin van Persie led the English Premier League in goals last season but there are already calls for him to take the bench in place of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
It doesn’t matter who starts for Holland as the lone striker. The team will have to be more clinical with its scoring opportunities because Germany will not surrender 32 shots like Denmark did.
The Stakes
A loss will most likely end the Netherlands chances of advancing past the Group stage, while another a German will would guarantee them a spot in the quarterfinals. That's why they call it the Group of Death, my friends.
Tactics and lineups
Germany plays a 4-2-3-1 formation with Schweinsteiger and Khedira lined up as the holding midfielders.
Projected lineup: Neur, Boateng, Hummels, Badstuber, Lahm, Khedira, Schweinsteiger, Muller, Ozil, Gotze, Klose.
Holland uses the same 4-2-3-1 with a penchant for a high pressure, attacking style.
Projected lineup: Stekelenburg, Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, Willems, De Jong, van Bommel, Robben, Sneijder, Afellay, Huntelaar.
Prediction: Germany 2, Netherlands 1

Wednesday's Streaking & Slumping Starting Pitchers
"STREAKING"
R.A. Dickey, New York Mets (9-1, 2.44 ERA)
There are tons of candidates for Wednesday’s streaking section, but we can’t ignore the Mets’ knuckler. Dickey hasn’t allowed a single run over his last three starts, spanning 24 2/3 innings while striking out 27 batters with three walks during the streak. He is 7-0 in his last nine trips to the hill and leads the MLB starter money standings having earned 9.50 units for his supporters.
Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants (7-2, 2.41 ERA)
Cain is rolling on a seven-start winning streak and baffled the Padres over seven innings the last time he toed the rubber. He didn’t allow an earned run and struck out nine while walking one. Can is now working on a 0.83 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in his last three and has climbed to 17th on the MLB money standings having earned 5.14 units for his supporters.
"SLUMPING"
Luke Hochevar, Kansas City Royals (3-7, 6.57 ERA)
The Royals have lost four of Hochevar’s last five outings and six of his last eight, including a 4-2 setback at Pittsburgh last week. He gave up four runs in the first three innings before settling down a bit to throw six innings before getting the hook. Hochevar is working on a 1.70 WHIP over his last three trips to the hill.
Kyle Drabek, Toronto Blue Jays (4-6, 4.43 ERA)
The Jays have won just two of Drabek’s last nine starts as he continues to struggle with control issues. He walked four and didn’t strike out a batter in last week’s no-decision against the Braves, allowing three earned runs in five innings of work. He has now walked 45 batters compared to 46 strikeouts in 67 innings pitched.

WHAT ARE THE ODDS? DICKEY IS MLB'S BEST MONEY PITCHER
By Doc's Sports
Before the MLB season started, if someone would have told you by June the New York Mets would be three games over .500 R.A. Dickey would be 9-1 with a 2.44 ERA, you would have probably looked at that person like they were high on bath salts.
Well here we are in the middle of June and the Mets are one of the best bets in the big leagues. Diehard fans who bet $100 on NYM every game this season would be up $734, the most profitable team to bet on this season so far.
Wagering on the Miracle Mets at Citi Field has been money in the bank. New York is 19-12 and up 7.04 units playing in front of its home fans.
Of course you can’t talk about the Mets without talking about their ace pitcher, and we don’t mean Johan Santana.
R.A. Dickey is slated to make his 13th start of the season on Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of a three-game Interleague set. Dickey is pitching lights-out and the Mets are 10-2 in games he’s taken the mound.
If you had wagered $100 on every game Dickey started this season you would be $950 richer. He leads Covers money pitcher list with the next best return going to Washington’s Gio Gonzalez at $772.
A $100 bet on each of his last nine starts would have netted you $777, and if you were so inclined to let it ride on Dickey over the same stretch of games, you would be heading into Wednesday night’s contest with somewhere in the neighborhood of $9,600 extra in your wallet.

Washington Nationals @ Toronto Blue Jays - NATIONALS TO WIN (-135) **12:35 PM EST START**
Listed Pitchers: Strasburg vs Drabek
(Note: I'm risking 2.70 units to win 2.00 units)
The Washington Nationals have won the first two against the Blue Jays and look for their second straight sweep of an AL East team this afternoon with Stephen Strasburg on the mound. The Nationals have improved to 37-23 on the year and 19-13 on the road, while the Jays have fallen to 31-31 and 16-14 at home. Strasburg is 7-1 on the year with a 2.41 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and .215 opponents batting average. He is 4-0 on the road with a 2.19 ERA, and the Nats are 10-2 when he starts a ball game. Toronto will go with Kyle Drabek this afternoon who is 4-6 on the year with a 4.43 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, and .241 opponents batting average. Drabek was walked 45 batters on the year and struck out only one more at 46, while Strasburg has struck out 92 and walked just 19. The Blue Jays are 5-7 in games where Drabek has taken the mound, and 2-7 in his lsat 9 starts. This line has moved since I sent it out, but I still like it up to -150. Take the Nats.
New York Mets @ Tampa Bay Rays - METS TO WIN (+152)
Listed Pitchers: Dickey vs Price
(Note: I'm risking 2.00 units to win 3.04 units)
The Mets took the first game of this three game interleague set with an 11-2 victory as about the same size underdogs. New York improved to 33-29 with the victory while the Rays are sitting at 35-26 on the season. The Mets will have R.A. Dickey on the mound tonight to square off against David Price. Dickey is 9-1 on the season with a 2.44 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and .225 opponents batting average. Over his last 9 starts he is 7-0 with a 1.55 ERA, and he has gone three straight starts allowing 0 earned runs against where he worked 7+ innings in each and struck out at least 8 batters in each. He has been lights out as of late to say the least. Price is 8-3 on the season with a 2.40 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and .236 opponents average. He too has been stellar, especially at home this season. Take note that the Mets are 7-0 in Dickey's last 7 starts and 10-4 in his last 14 road starts. Tampa Bay is just 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 vs a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. With the way Dickey has been pitching lately and the Mets putting up 11 runs yesterday I love this generous underdog line. Again this line moved over night but I still like where it is at right now. Take the Mets to win.Last edited by WINNERS_ONLY; 06-13-2012 at 10:28 AM. Reason: add analysis

Hondo
Hondo stayed torrid last night as he collected with the Pale Hose and Dodgers, who boosted his hot streak to nine triumphs in his last 10 tries and lowered his deficit to 1,410 sanfords.
Tonight, Mr. Aitch expects Cain to reign against the ’Stros – 10 units on the Giants. Also, he will float a 10-unit investment at Dickey, who’s pitching so well he may be able to overcome not only the Rays but also the presence of Bill Maher in Mets ownership. Finally, he will be peeved if Jake doesn’t deal the Cards a losing hand – 10 units on the White Sox.

SPORTS WAGERS SOCCER EURO 2012
Portugal -111 over Denmark
Denmark managed to cause the biggest upset of the first round when they edged out the Netherlands. Lady luck was smiling on the Danes, as they scored on their only clear cut scoring opportunity of the entire game. A win is a win though and now they face a desperate Portugal side eager to collect three points. Portugal hung with Germany at 0-0 until the 72nd minute when Germany scored off a Mario Gomez header. Portugal looked dangerous as they tried for the equalizer but to no avail. Portugal has a solid defensive core and more options in attack for this contest. Look for Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Nani to kick-start Portugal with a victory over the lucky Danes. Play: Portugal -111 (Risking 2 units to win 1.82).
Netherlands vs Germany over 2½ +100
The Netherlands are really behind the eight ball after losing to Denmark. After an ice cold offensive display they now face a German team who played a solid game versus Portugal. Expect a bounce back performance, as the Netherlands are too deep to lay an egg in back-to-back contests. Germany can smell blood and know they can knock Holland out of the tournament with a win. Germany should be loose with a win under their belts and will be a threat to score. The Netherlands have no choice but to eventually take risks offensively and as a result we expect a wide-open affair with plenty of goals. Play: Netherlands/Germany over 2½ (Risking 2 units).

SPORTS WAGERS MLB
N.Y. Mets +142 over TAMPA BAY
David Price has added a sinking fastball this season. His surface stats (2.40 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) and skills both remain elite. Price’s GB% has grown by 8% to 52%, meaning he's now part of the small group of starters that have a legit chance at winning the Cy Young award. However, R.A. Dickey and the Mets have been a lethal combination with New York winning the past seven games that Dickey has started. Overall, he’s 9-1 with a 2.44 ERA and a decreasing WHIP that now stands at an elite 1.04. Dickey has 46 K’s and four walks over his past 36.2 innings, covering his last five starts. This knuckleballer is so difficult to hit and when batters do make contact, it’s usually a grounder, as he has a 51% groundball rate and one of the lowest line-drive rates in the majors at 19%. The Mets came in here last night with the NL’s best road BA and promptly whacked this host 11-2. A ridiculous tag on the game’s hottest pitcher easily dictates this wager. Play: N.Y. Mets +142 (Risking 2 units).
Boston +104 over MIAMI
Ricky Nolasco is posting the worst skills of his career with a mediocre strikeout rate and a 4.23 xERA . He’ll now face a Boston offense that ranks 3rd in the league in runs scored. The Marlins have lost four of Nolasco’s past six starts. At home, the righty is 2-3 with a 5.56 ERA. The Fish have lost seven of their past 10 overall. Meanwhile, Felix Doubront has surprisingly emerged as Boston’s most reliable starter this season. He has 72 k’s in 67 frames and his 3.47 xERA is almost a full run lower than his actual ERA. Neither his hit % or strand % is wildly out of whack, he has a groundball bias profile and he’s 4-1 on the road with a 3.36 ERA. Doubront's modest success is supported by his skills, allowing us to confidently step in against a laboring Marlins club. Play: Boston +104 (Risking 2 units).
